To a mixture of 2,6-dichloro-3-nitropyridine (2.26 g, 10.8 mmol) and potassium carbonate (1.29 g, 9.34 mmol) in anhydrous CH3CN (20 ml), was added (S)-1-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-ethylamine (1.00 g, 7.19 mmol) dropwise at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred at 25° C. for 17 hours. The solid was removed by filtration and the resulted cake was washed with EtOAc (20 ml). The combined filtrate was concentrated and purified by column chromatography (hexane-EtOAc=10:1) to give the title compound as a yellow solid (1.74 g, 82%). 1H NMR (400 MHz) δ 8.65 (d, J=7.6 Hz, 1H), 8.43 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 1H), 7.51 (m, 2H), 7.16 (m, 2H), 6.81 (d, J=8.8 Hz, 1H), 5.37 (m, 1H), 1.59 (d, J=6.8 Hz, 3H).
