Sodium hydride (55.8 mg) (60% in mineral oil) was added to a solution of 2-(methylsulfonyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-benzimidazole (233 mg) and MeI (0.080 mL) in DMF(dry) (10 ml) at room temperature. The mixture was stirred at room temperature under a dry atmosphere (CaCl2 tube) for 1 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with MeOH (2 mL), and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by column chromatography (silica gel, eluted with 0%-30% EtOAc in hexane) to give 1-methyl-2-(methylsulfonyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-benzimidazole (200 mg) as a white solid.
