Procedure
A mixture of 3.9 g. of 4-[6-(4-hydroxyphenyl)hexyl]-3,5-heptanedione (Example 28), 12 g. of 2-bromoethyl ethyl ether, 4 g. of potassium carbonate and 1 g. of potassium iodide in 40 ml. of acetone was heated at reflux for 48 hours and then allowed to stand at room temperature for three days. The reaction mixture was then filtered and concentrated to remove the solvent. The residue was distilled at 200°-205° C. (0.001 mm.) to give 4-{6-[4-(2-ethoxyethoxy)phenyl]hexyl}-3,5-heptanedione as a light yellow oil.
