A solution of 12 (256 mg, 0.74 mmol) in ethyl acetate (50 mL) was cooled to 0° C. and treated with anhydrous HCl (1 min). The mixture was stirred at room temperature (1 h). The solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue disolved in dichloromethane and sodium carbonate solution. The aqueous layer was extracted with two additional portions of dichioromethane. The combined organic extracts were washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the title compound (13). The crude product was used directly.
