Procedure
The L-isoleucine, methyl ester, isomer A product from part (a) (0.25 g., 0.544 mmole) is dissolved in a solution of hydrochloric acid in dioxane (2N, 2.25 ml.). After keeping the solution at room temperature for 4 hours, it is evaporated in vacuo to give N-[[[(3S)-3-amino-2-hydroxy-5-methylhexyl](1-methylethyl)amino]carbonyl]-L-isoleucine, methyl ester, isomer A.
