Procedure
The isoleucine, methyl ester product from part (d) (0.43 g., 1.03 mmole) is dissolved in a solution of hydrochloric acid in dioxane (2N, 3 ml.) and kept at room temperature for 2.5 hours. The mixture is then concentrated to dryness in vacuo to give N-[[[(3S)-3-amino-2-hydroxy-5-methylhexyl]amino]carbonyl]-L-isoleucine, methyl ester, monohydrochloride.
