with ice-cooling, 4.0 g (34.7 mmol) of methanesulfonyl chloride were added dropwise to a solution of 5.1 g (31.6 mmol) of 1-amino-3,3-dimethylindan and 12.8 g (126.4 mmol) of triethylamine in 100 ml of THF. After 2 h at RT, 100 ml of water were added, the reaction mixture was concentrated to about 50 ml and admixed with 100 ml of water and the precipitate was filtered off with suction, rinsed with water and dried under reduced pressure. This procedure gave 6.7 g of 3,3-dimethyl-1-methylsulfonylaminoindan; m.p. 117-119° C.
