Procedure

A solution of 0.12 g (R)-8-bromo-4,7-dimethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-pyrazino[1,2-a]indole-2-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester in 3 ml of a 2M solution of hydrochloric acid in ethyl acetate was stirred at room temperature under argon for 2 h. The precipitate was collected by filtration and dried to constant weight to yield the title compound (0.065 g) as off-white crystals. m.p.: 241° C. (dec.); ISP-MS: M+H=279.1; HNMR: (250 MHz, DMSO-d6, δ [ppm]) 1.50 (d, J=6.5 Hz, 3H); 2.45 (s, 3H); 3.48–3.74 (m, 2H); 4.36–4.58 (m, 2H); 4.74–4.89 (m, 1H); 6.35 (s, 1H); 7.54 (s, 1H); 7.78 (s, 1H)
