(R)-2-Chloro-1-(2,3-dihydroxy-2-methyl)-propyl-4-nitroimidazole prepared in Example 10 (0.74 g, 3.11 mmol) and triethylamine (1.74 ml, 12.42 mmol) were added to a suspension of 4-(4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine-1-carbonylchloride (0.60 g, 2.07 mmol) in toluene (36 ml) followed by stirring at 100° C. for 16 hours. The mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate, washed with water, dried over magnesium sulfate and then concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (methylene chloride/ethyl acetate=9/1) to afford (R)-3-(2-chloro-4-nitroimidazol-1-yl)-2-hydroxy-2-methylpropyl 4-(4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine-1-carboxylate (0.32 g, yield 31%) as a light yellow oil.
