Procedure

24.5 g (68 mmol) of 1-(ethoxycarbonylmethyl)-6-nitro-7-(1-pyrrolyl)-2,3(1H,4H)-quinoxalinedione (Example 52) were dissolved in 500 ml of tetrahydrofuran, and a solution of 6.6 g (270 mmol) of lithium hydroxide in 100 ml of water was added. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 16 h and then the tetrahydrofuran was removed under reduced pressure, and the aqueous phase was filtered. The filtrate was acidified with 1M hydrochloric acid, and the precipitate was filtered off with suction to yield 17.5 g (77%) of the product.

Workup

  1. customthe tetrahydrofuran was removed under reduced pressure
  2. filtrationthe aqueous phase was filtered
  3. filtrationthe precipitate was filtered off with suction
