Procedure
To a solution of 5-fluoro-3-iodo-indazole (3.0 g, 11.5 mmol) and 1,2-dichloroethane (5.7 g, 57.3 mmol) in ACN (50 mL) was added K2CO3 (3.2 g, 22.9 mmol) at rt. The reaction was stirred overnight at reflux. The reaction mixture was filtered and concentrated in vacuo. Purification by silica gel chromatography (30:1:5 hexanes/EtOAc/DCM) gave 2.5 g (67%) of the title compound as a yellow solid. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): δ 3.97 (2H, t, J=6.0 Hz), 4.69 (2H, t, J=6.0 Hz), 7.13 (1H, dd, J=1.8, 7.8 Hz), 7.22-7.29 (1H, m), 7.42 (1H, dd, J=3.9, 9.3 Hz).
