To a solution of 4-(4-hydroxymethyl-thiazol-2-yl)-4-methyl-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (0.42 g, 1.3 mmol) in methylene chloride (10 mL) was added methanesulfonyl chloride (0.19 g, 1.7 mmol) and triethylamine (0.2 g, 2 mmol) at 0° C. After stirring at 0° C. for 1 hour, the mixture was diluted with EtOAc and washed with H2O and brine. After drying (Na2SO4), the solvent was removed in vacuo, and the residue was purified by silica column chromatography with EtOAc/hexanes to afford the desired product.
