Procedure

The product of Example 78C (510 mg, 0.879 mmol), iron powder (302 mg, 5.40 mmol), and ammonium chloride (308 mg, 5.76 mmol) in water (4 mL) and ethanol (8 mL) were heated at 80° for 40 minutes. The reaction was cooled to room temperature, diluted with ethyl acetate (100 mL), and washed with water (2×50 mL) and brine (50 mL). The organic phase was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated by rotary evaporation under vacuum to provide the title compound as a white foam (436 mg, 90%).
