Procedure

4,4-dimethyl-cyclohexen-1-one (5 g, 40.3 mmol) were placed in a hydrogen reaction vessel and n-pentane (15 ml) was added, and Pd/C (500 mg) was added thereto. The hydrogen reaction vessel was pressurized with hydrogen (25 psi), and the reaction was conducted for 30 minutes. After completing the reaction, the solid like material was filtered through Celite and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (5 g, 98%).
