{3-[4-Bromo-2-((4S,5R)-4-methyl-2-oxo-5-phenyl-oxazolidin-3-ylmethyl)-phenoxy]-4-methoxy-phenyl}-acetic acid methyl ester (0.1 g, 0.19 mmol), sodium methanesulfinate (0.087 g, 0.84 mmol), and copper iodide (0.159 g, 0.84 mmol) were combined in NMP (2 mL) and degassed with N2 for 10 minutes. The reaction was then stirred at 150° C. for 3 hours, until no starting material was seen by analytical tlc. The mixture was filtered through Celite and worked-up with brine and EtOAc, and the crude material was purified by silica gel chromatography to give the desired product as a colorless oil (0.1 g).
