To [3-(2-dimethoxymethyl-4-trifluoromethyl-phenoxy)-phenyl]-acetic acid methyl ester (0.479 g, 1.2 mmol) in THF (4 mL) was added hydrogen chloride (4N in 1,4-dioxane; 1.5 mL), and the reaction was stirred at 70° C. for 1.5 hours. Additional HCl (0.5 mL) was added, and the reaction was stirred for 40 minutes at 70° C. The mixture was partitioned between H2O and EtOAc, and the aqueous layer was extracted twice with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were dried and concentrated to give the desired product (0.46 g).
