To a solution of (R)-2-amino-1-(2,2-dimethyl-4H-1,3-benzodioxin-6-yl)ethanol (2.53 g, 11.3 mmol) in chloroform (12 mL) was added carbonyldiimidazol (2.75 g, 17 mmol) and triethylamine (2.37 mL, 17 mmol). The mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the residue diluted with ethyl acetate (25 mL). The organic layer was washed with water (2×10 mL), brine (10 mL), dried (Na2SO4), and the solvent reduced under reduced pressure. Purification by column chromatography with silica gel and n-hexane/ethyl acetate (1:2) as eluent yielded the title compound (1.63 g, 51%).
