To a solution of 2-(5-ethyl-pyridin-2-yl)-ethanol (480 mg, 3.17 mmol, example 69) in THF (10 mL) is added resorcinol monobenzoate (630 mg, 2.94 mmol), triphenylphosphine (850 mg, 3.24 mmol) and diethyl azodicarboxylate (510 μL, 3.24 mmol). The resulting mixture is stirred for 1 h then concentrated. The residue is purified by flash chromatography (silica, 35% ethyl acetate in hexane) to give the title compound as a yellow oil. MS (ESI) 348 (M+H)+.
