Procedure
A solution of ethyl trans-3-(2-(4-chlorophenoxy)-5-thiazolyl)propenoate from above in 1:1 1N LiOH:THF (120 mL) was heated at 50° C. for 5 hrs. It was then cooled to r.t. and the THF was stripped off. The aqueous residue was poured into 1:1 ice:conc. HCl (100 mL), the precipitate was collected, taken up in ethylacetate(150 mL), dried with MgSO4 and concentrated to afford trans-3-(2-(4-chlorophenoxy)-5-thiazolyl)propenoic acid as an off-white solid.
