Procedure
To a solution containing 7.6 g. (0.03 mole) of the sodium salt of 4-amino-1,2-dihydro-2-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid ethyl ester in 50 ml. of dimethylformamide was added 4.8 g. (0.04 mole) of allyl bromide. The reaction mixture was heated on a steam bath for 1/2 hour. The reaction mixture was cooled in ice and poured into 500 ml. of water. The resulting precipitate was collected on a filter and recrystallized from ethyl acetate-petroleum ether giving 4.6 g. of product, m.p. 132°-134° C.
