Procedure

16 g of Pearlman's catalyst (Pd(OH)2 on carbon, 20%) is added to 11.13 g (47.70 mmol) of 5-benzyloxy-2,2-dimethyl-3 (S)-hydroxy-pentane-nitrile of the title compound of Example 1c, dissolved in 110 ml of tetrahydrofuran. It is now hydrogenated for 7.5 hours at 10 bar and at room temperature. Catalyst is filtered out, and the filtrate is evaporated to the dry state in a vacuum.
