A mixture of 4.0 g (17 mM) of the phenyl ester of tetrahydro-1-methyl-4-oxo-1H-imidazol-2-ylidene carbamic acid 8 and 1.6 g (17 mM) of 4-aminopyridine in 25 ml of anhydrous dimethylformamide (DMF) was heated at 55° for 5 hrs. (hours), cooled, and poured with stirring into 250 ml of water. The precipitated solid was collected, washed with ethanol and ether, and air dried. Recrystallization from methanol gave 2.0 g of the above urea as a pale yellow solid, m.p. 218°-220° C. (dec.).
