Procedure
To a solution of 7-[2-(2-formamidothiazol-4-yl)-2-methoxyiminoacetamido]-3-vinyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid (syn isomer)(1.4 g) in methanol (30 ml) and tetrahydrofuran (20 ml) was added conc. hydrochloric acid (1.0 ml), and the mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 2.7 hours. After evaporation of the reaction mixture, the residue was washed with tetrahydrofuran to give 7-[2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-2-methoxyiminoacetamido]-3-vinyl-3-cephem-4-carboxyic acid hydrochloride (syn isomer)(1.2 g).
