Intermediate (17a) (5.6 g, 11.5 mmol), tetrakis(triphenylphosphine) palladium(0) (2.1 g, 1.8 mmol), and (2-ethenyl)tri-n-butyltin (13.5 mL, 46.2 mmol) were dissolved in DMF (70 mL, 900 mmol), and heated at 90° C. for 1.5 hours. The mixture was cooled to room temperature and 300 mL of EtOAc was added. The organic layer was washed using a 20% potassium fluoride solution (2×100 mL) and saturated aqueous NaCl. The resulting material was purified by silica gel chromatography (0-60% EtOAc:hexanes) to yield intermediate (17b) (4.3 g). MS m/z: [M+H+] calcd for C26H28N2O4, 433.2. found 433.4.
