Following the method of Example 3, Step A, ethyl 4-chloro-3-hydroxybenzoate (5.75 g, 28.7 mmol), sodium hydride (0.724 g, 28.7 mmol), DM (30 mL), and 2-chloro-4-nitropyridine (4.54 g, 28.7 mmol) were combined to give the desired product (4.75 g, 47.8% yield) as a yellow oil.
