Procedure
A suspension of NaH (0.47 g, 19.6 mmol) in DMF (20 mL) was cautiously treated with methanol (0.59 g, 18.4 mmol). After 30 minutes, the mixture was treated with a solution of 3,5-dibromopyridine (4.0 g, 16.9 mmol) in DMF (5.0 mL). After stirring overnight, the reaction mixture was quenched with saturated aqueous NH4Cl and extracted with diethyl ether (200 mL). The organic phase was dried (MgSO4) and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by chromatography on SiO2 (CH2Cl2) to provide the title compound (2.24 g, 70% yield) as a yellow solid.
