The product from Step (a) (2 g) was dissolved in dioxane (100 ml) and 6N HCl (100 ml) was added. After 18 hours at room temperature the solvent was evaporated and the resultant solid was dissolved in aqueous NaOH (2M) to pH 11. The solution was extracted with ethyl acetate, the organic phase was dried (MgSO4) and evaporated to leave the title compound as an oil (1.1 g).
