Procedure
An amount of 184.1 g of n-butyliodide is added to 144.2 g of 2-mercapto-4,6-dihydroxy-pyrimidine dissolved in 1000 ml of 2-n aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, and the whole heated for 2 hours at 85°-90°C. After cooling, the reaction mixture is rendered acid, to a congo-red indicator, with ice and concentrated hydrochloric acid. The 2-n-butylthio-4,6-dihydroxy-pyrimidine obtained as a precipitate is separated and dried.
