To a solution 2-amino-4-chloronicotinonitrile (90 mg, 0.59 mmol), NaNO2 (45 mg, 0.65 mmol), in HCl (6M, 1 mL) was added CuSO4 (94 mg, 0.59 mmol). The resulting mixture was allowed to stir at 0° C. for 0.5 h. To the solution was added water (2 ml), extracted with EtOAc (2×5 mL), dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated to afford the title compound as a yellow solid. LC/MS m/z=155.2 [M+H]+
