Procedure
To a solution of 3-[2-(4-bromo-phenyl)-thiomorpholin-4-yl]-propionic acid tert-butyl ester (22.15 g; 57.33 mmol) 1,4-dioxane (250 mL) was added N,N′-dimethylethylene-diamine (3.05 mL; 28.67 mmol). Through the resulting mixture was bubbled nitrogen gas for 1 hour, and subsequently CuI (1.09 g; 5.73 mmol), and NaI (21.48 g; 143.33 mmol) were added. The resulting mixture was heated at 130° C. in a closed vessel for 4 days. After cooling to RT the mixture was concentrated in vacuo, and the residue purified by column chromatography (SiO2, Et2O/hexanes 2:3) to afford 3-[2-(4-iodo-phenyl)-thiomorpholin-4-yl]-propionic acid tert-butyl ester (19.30 g)
