To a solution of 3-ethyl-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-amine (150 mg, 1.34 mmol) in diphenyl ether (2 ml) was added ethyl 3-(1-acetyl-1H-indazol-5-yl)-3-oxopropanoate (550 mg, 2.00 mmol) and TsOH (8 mg, 0.04 mmol), and the reaction mixture was stirred for 1 h at 170° C. The solids were collected by filtration and washed with hexane (10 ml) and ethanol (3 ml) to afford 5-(1-acetyl-1H-indazol-5-yl)-2-ethyl-[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-α]pyrimidin-7(4H)-one as a yellow solid (130 mg, crude).
