To a solution of 3-ethyl-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-amine (150 mg, 0.89 mmol) in diphenyl ether (2 ml) was added ethyl 3-(1H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazol-5-yl)-3-oxopropanoate (500 mg, 2.15 mmol) and TsOH (8 mg, 0.04 mmol), and the reaction mixture was stirred overnight at 130° C. The solids were collected by filtration and washed with methanol (20 ml) to afford 5-(1H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazol-5-yl)-2-ethyl-[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-α]pyrimidin-7(4H)-one as a off-white solid (66.4 mg, 18%).
