1,3-dihydro-5-bromomethyl-1-methyl-2H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-2-one from Preparation 18 (0.14 g, 0.6 mmol) is dissolved in dioxane (20 ml) at room temperature and under argon. Phenylpiperazine (0.1 ml, 0.66 mmol, 1.1 equiv.) and triethylamine (0.1 ml, 0.72 mmol, 1.2 equiv.) are added in succession at the same temperature. After 1 hour 30 minutes' reaction, the reaction mixture is concentrated under reduced pressure and the product is purified on a silica column (dichloromethane/methanol: 97:3). The title compound is obtained in the form of a yellow oil in a yield of 65%. ##STR74##
