Procedure
A solution of 3-acetyl-2-(4-chlorophenyl)indole (53.9 mg, 0.2 mmol) and phenethylbromide (30 μL, 0.22 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran is treated with NaH (60% dispersion in mineral oil, 24 mg, 0.6 mmol) at room temperature, shaken for 6 h, quenched with saturated NaHCO3 and extracted with ethyl acetate. The extracts are combined and concentrated in vacuo to afford the title product, 34 mg (46% yield), identified by NMR and mass spectral analyses.
Workup
- customquenched with saturated NaHCO3
- extractionextracted with ethyl acetate
- concentrationconcentrated in vacuo
