Lithium hydroxide (27 mg, 1.15 mmol) was added to a solution of ethyl(2S)-2-ethoxy-3-[4-(2-{4-[(methylsulfonyl)oxy]phenoxy}ethyl)phenyl]propanoate (167 mg, 0.38 mmol) in THF/water 4:1 (5 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight and 1 M HCl (2 mL) was added. The THF was removed under reduced pressure. The aqueous phase was diluted with water and extracted three times with CH2Cl2 in a Phase Separator. The combined organic layers were evaporated. The residue was purified by preparative HPLC to give the product as a colorless oil (129 mg, 83%).
