17.5 g (6.2×10-2 mole) of the chloride of 11-bromoundecanoic acid diluted in 100 ml of trichloromethane was added dropwise to a solution of N,N,β,β-tetramethyl-4-piperidineethanamine in 120 ml of trichloromethane and 19.2 ml (14.7×10-2 mole) of N,N-diethylethanamine, cooled to 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred for 3 hours at 0° C. then for 20 hours at room temperature. The reaction mixture was poured into water and allowed to settle. The organic phase was recovered and dried over magnesium sulphate and the solvents were evaporated off under reduced pressure. 12 g (yield: 57%) of the desired product was obtained as an oil.
