Procedure
Ethyl β-[[[[7-aminoheptyl]amino]carbonyl]amino]-3-pyridinepropanoate (1.2 g; 3 mmoles), 3,5-dimethylpyrazole-1-carboxamidine nitrate (2.6 g; 13.3 mmoles) and diisopropylethylamine (3.74 g; 28.7 mmoles) were stirred in dioxane (25 ml) and water (10 ml) for 22 hrs. The mixture was taken down to dryness under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by HPLC using a linear gradient of 5-45% acetonitrile/water/trifluoroacetic acid. The desired fractions were collected and lyophilized to give 875 mg of clear oily material. FAB-MS: MH+ =393.2. Elemental analysis: C19H32N6O3 ·CF3COOH·4H2O
