Procedure
A solution of 5-bromopyrimidin-2-one hydrobromide (512 mg) and α-bromoacetophenone (398 mg) in triethylamine (2 ml) and ethanol (10 ml) was stirred at ambient temperature for three and a half hours. After evaporation of solvents, the residue was triturated with water. The product was filtered off and recrystallised from ethanol to give the title pyrimidinone: yield 253 mg: m.p. 161°-163°, λmaxEtOH 241.5 nm (ε 18810), 285 nm (ε 1690), 334.5 nm (ε 3190).
