The nitration reaction was effected in the same manner as Example 9 except that 1.8 g (0.024 mole based on N2O3) of the frozen blue liquid, 1 mole of adamantane, 0. 05 mmole of N-hydroxyphthalimide and 5 ml acetic acid were mixed and then the mixture was reacted for 16 hours at 25° C. with stirring. As a result, nitroadamantane was formed. The conversion of adamantane was 83% and the yield of the nitroadamantane was 72%.
