Procedure

Pyridine (0.37 g, 4.62 mmol) and methanesulfonic anhydride (0.54 g, 3.08 mmol) were added to Compound 74 (0.67 g, 1.54 mmol) in THF (10 mL). The mixture was heated at 50° C. for 2 h, then cooled to rt. Another portion of THF (5 mL) was added, followed by 1 N HCl (5 mL). The mixture was stirred for another 15 min, then extracted with EtOAc several times. The combined EtOAc layers were washed once with 1 N HCl (10 mL), water (2×20 mL) and saturated NaCl (20 mL), then dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated in vacuo to obtain 3-(5-chloro-1-methyl-1H-indol-3-yl)-4-[1-[3-[(methylsulfonyl)oxy]propyl]-1H-indazol-3-yl]-1H-pyrrole-2,5-dione as Compound 26a (0.73 g, 92%) as a reddish solid. ES-MS m/z 513 (MH+).
