To 9.6 g of tert-butyl acetoacetate was dissolved in 80 ml of tetrahydrofuran, and 2.33 g of 60% oil sodium hydride was added under cooling with ice under stirring. The resulting solution was stirred at the same temperature for 10 minutes. After addition of 13.6 g of 2-(chloromethyl)-5-(phenylcarbamoyl)furan obtained in Reference Example 2 in 80 ml of tetrahydrofuran, the solution was stirred at room temperature for 10 minutes and then at 60° C. for 13 hours under heating. Water and ethyl acetate were added to the reaction solution for extraction, and the organic layer was washed with water, saturated aqueous sodium hydrogencarbonate and saturated aqueous sodium chloride successively and then dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The desiccant was filtered off, and the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography [hexane/ethyl acetate=10/1→3/1] to give 14.0 g of the title compound as a colorless oily substance.
