Procedure

A mixture of 3-(benzyloxy)-N-(4-fluorobenzyl)-9,9-dimethyl-4-oxo-6,7,8,9-tetrahydro-4H-pyrazino[1,2-a]pyrimidine-2-carboxamide (prepared as described in Example 3, Step 1) (1 eq.), K2CO3 (2 eq.), methyl bromoacetate (2 eq.) in DMF was heated for 24 hours at 65° C. and then was cooled to room temperature. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the residue was taken up in EtOAc and washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to yield the desired ester as a brown oil. MS (ES) C27H29FN4O5 requires 508. Found: 509 (M+H+).
