A mixture of 98.1 g (0.5 mol) of N-(2-hydroxy4-nitrophenyl)acetamide (RN 121-88-0) and 69.2 g (0.5 mol) of potassium carbonate in 500 ml of dimethylformamide was heated with stirring at 50° C.; 113.0 g (1 mol) of 1,3-dichloropropane (RN 142-28-9) were then added and heating was continued at 50° C. for one hour.
