A mixture of 4-(6-cyano-4-(methoxycarbonyl)chroman-7-yloxy)benzoic acid (Preparation 2) (50 mg, 0.1415 mmol), 1-(3-(dimethylamino)propyl)-3-ethyl-carbodiimide hydrochloride (32.55 mg, 0.170 mmol), 1-hydroxybenzotriazole monohydrate (26.01 mg, 0.170 mmol), and 1,2-dichloroethane (2 ml) was stirred at ambient temperature for 30 minutes. To the mixture was added 3′,4′-dimethylbiphenyl-3-amine hydrochloride (39.69 mg, 0.170 mmol) and triethylamine (98.62 μl, 0.707 mmol) and the mixture was stirred for 2 days at ambient temperature. The crude mixture was purified on silica gel (EtOAc in hexanes gradient) to provide 36 mg of the title compound as a thin film (48%).
