To a mixture of 500 mg of methyl 6-{[(3-{[2-(trimethylsilyl)ethoxy]carbonyl}phenyl)sulfonyl]amino}nicotinate and 10 mL of DMF were added 0.300 mL of 1-iodopropane and 400 mg of potassium carbonate, followed by stirring at 80° C. for 5 hours. The reaction mixture was left to stand to cool and then water was added thereto, followed by extraction with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine, and then dried over magnesium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure, and then the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (chloroform-ethyl acetate) to obtain 200 mg of a methyl 6-{propyl[(3-{[2-(trimethylsilyl)ethoxy]carbonyl}phenyl)sulfonyl]amino}nicotinate as a colorless oily substance.
