Procedure

A reaction vessel equipped with a stirrer, a condenser and a decanter was charged with 500 g (3.42 mol) of diethyl oxalate, 31.3 g (0.23 mol) of trimethylolpropane and 1 g (0.0053 mol) of p-toluenesulfonic acid one hydrate, and mixed at 130° C. for 5 hours. After removing 32.3 g of ethanol, it was then cooled and excess amount of diethyl oxalate was evaporated to obtain 106.1 g of crude triethoxalyltrimethylolpropane (yield 85%).
