To a solution of 4-(6-cyano-4-(methoxycarbonyl)chroman-7-yloxy)benzoic acid (Preparation 2) (21.8 mg, 0.0617 mmol) in dichloromethane (1 ml) with a drop of DMF was added oxalyl chloride (2M in dichloromethane) (0.0370 ml, 0.0740 mmol). Gas evolution was observed. The mixture was stirred for 0.5 hours at ambient temperature. Triethylamine (0.0430 ml, 0.3085 mmol) and 2-phenylcyclopropanamine, hemisulfate (28.11 mg, 0.1542 mmol) were added sequentially to the mixture. The mixture was stirred for 17 hours at ambient temperature. The crude mixture was purified on silica gel (MeOH in dichloromethane gradient) to provide 25.9 mg of the title compound as a thin film (90%).
