Procedure

At 0° C., NBS (9.08 g, 51.0 mmol) was added to a soln. of methyl cyclohex-2-enecarboxylate (5.96 g, 42.5 mmol) [Bioorg. Med. Chem. 1999, 7, 1505-1511] in THF/H2O (500 mL, 9:1). The mixture was allowed to warm to RT and stirred for 2 h. Subsequently, aq. sat. Na2S2O3 and aq. sat. NaHCO3 were added and the mixture was conc. in vacuo.
