Procedure

LiOH (240 mL, 0.24 mmol, 1 M) was added to a solution of methyl 4-(2-((1R,2R)-2-((E)-3-hydroxy-4-(naphthalen-2-yl)but-1-en-1-yl)-5-oxocyclopentyl)ethyl)benzoate (21 mg, 0.047 mmol) in THF (2.5 mL). The mixture was stirred at 60° C. overnight, cooled to room temperature and then 1 M HCl (20 mL) was added. The resulting mixture was extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×20 mL) and the combined organic solution was washed with brine and then was dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated. Purification by preparative thin layer chromatography (10% methanol/CH2Cl2) gave the title compound (13 mg).
