Procedure
To a solution of 1.20 g of tert-butyl 4-[2-(4-chloro-2-phenyl-1H-imidazo-[4,5-c]quinolin-1-yl)ethyl]-1-piperazinecarboxylate in 12 ml of 1,2-dichloroethane, 1.2 ml of methanesulfonic acid was added, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 5 minutes. The reaction mixture was added with isopropanol and ethanol, and the precipitated crystals were collected by filtration to give 1.24 g of colorless crystals. Recrystallization from methanol gave colorless crystals having the melting point of from 256 to 270° C. (decomposition).
